Meditation

For More Detail Click www.spiritualhealingtech.com
Meditation is a mental discipline by which one attempts to get beyond the reflexive, "thinking" mind into a deeper state of relaxation or awareness. Meditation often involves turning attention to a single point of reference. It is a component of many religions, and has been practiced since antiquity. It is also practiced outside religious traditions. Different meditative disciplines encompass a wide range of spiritual or psychophysical practices that may emphasize different goals—from achievement of a higher state of consciousness, to greater focus, creativity or self-awareness, or simply a more relaxed and peaceful frame of mind.

Sufi/Islamic Meditation
The relationship and attitude toward God is spelt out in the word 'Islâm' ... it has embodied within it, the complete technique of the highest form of worship as well as everyday living! Qur'ânic passages are self-explanatory in pointing out the way of worship by total effacement of the self in surrender and submission; to the exclusion of every other interest or entity; not only in prayer but in every aspect of life.

Sûrah al Baqarâh 2:19-20.
Lo! The religion before Allâh is surrender (Islâm)... if they surrender, then will they truly be rightly guided in prayer.

Sûrah 23: 77
O, Ye who believe, completely efface your selves in self-surrender when worshiping your Lord, and do good that happily you may prosper.

This excerpt is from the hadith about Islâm, Îmân & Ihsân:
'...Then Jibraîl (as) asked: Tell me about Ihsân (goodness/beauty). The Prophet Muhammad (saw) answered: 'It is that you worship Allah as if you see Him, and even though you do not see Him, you know that He sees you....'

This practice of visualization and being in the Presence of Allâh, in a meditative state as you offer your Salât, is a powerful experience to keep one's full awareness in prayer.

Meditation is soothing for the mind and soul. It is a good way to get in tune with oneself. While in Mecca Prophet Muhammad (saw) used to go to Mount Hira and sit in the cave where he pondered and meditated.

There are different ways to meditate, and you can try each one to see which suits you the best or alternate each one.

Prayer
The best known and most widely practiced example of meditation is prayer.

Contemplate
Many people benefit from reading the Qur'ân silently or aloud, and taking a few moments to quietly reflect on the meaning that the words bring to mind. You may want to write your reflections in a journal.

Visualize
In this type of meditation you focus your attention on Allâh, weaving feelings of love and gratitude into your thoughts. You can also close your eyes and in your mind's eye gaze at the Asma al Husna as if written in air. You can choose a different one each day.
Sensate
Feel as if you are sitting in the Presence of Allâh, as if He is in front of you, you can feel His awesomeness, His grandeur, His grace and His love. Imagine He is watching you, you will want to hide from yourself as you become aware of how short we fall in our dedication and effacement in surrender, how full we are of our self and how little we think of Him as we go through our everyday living. (This does not imply imagining an image but focus on the awareness of His presence)

There are two concepts or schools of meditation in Islam. One is that which is described in the Qur’ân and Sunnah, another is that which has been developed by the Sufis in later times (that is, after the first phase, considered the ideal phase of Islam).

The original concept of meditation is based on contemplation, called 'tafakkur' in the Qur’ân. That is, reflection upon the universe to gain food for thought. To put it differently, this is a form of intellectual development that emanates from a higher level, i.e. from God.

This intellectual process through the receiving of divine inspiration awakens and liberates the human mind, permitting man’s inner personality to develop and grow so that he may lead his life on a spiritual plane far above the mundane level.

The second form of meditation, the one developed by the Sufis, is largely based on mystical exercises. However, this method is controversial among Muslim scholars. One group of Ulama, Al-Ghazâlî, for instance, have accepted it, another group of Ulama, Ibn-Taimia, for instance, have rejected it as an innovation.

-------------------
Does Islam Permit Meditation?

A Muslim need not go to any Ashram for meditation if he knows how to perform Salât. Salât is a meditation of the highest order but most Muslims have forgotten it. They read Namâz or recite Namâz or even offer Namâz but they do not meditate in it though it is a pre-requisite. A Salât does not even start without the state of meditation. The Prophet (Pbuh) instructed a person in Salât to meditate upon the presence of God who is watching the devotee. A state of trance is reached when he really meditates upon it. Then comes the voice of The Word of God from the lips of the Imam. If he really started Salât with a state of meditation, the voice of the Imam seems to be coming from a spiritual source. The words of the Qur’ân (if he knows Arabic) work as suggestions in a trance and he gradually starts believing in the orders and teaching of those words. There are repetitions of Allâh u Akbar and the Tasbihât of Ruku' and Sajda etc. They all work wonders in a state of trance. They are autosuggestions. An individual Salât (Sunnah and Nafl) is based completely on autosuggestions where there is no outside voice but his own recitation works as autosuggestion. Remember what Qur’ân said about Zikr (Remembrance and not merely chanting)? "Beware! In remembrance of Allah do hearts find peace" (13:28) Salât, while offered properly and associated with meditation of Allah's presence and His watchfulness is the remembrance of the highest order and must provide peace. Qur’ân proclaims: "Recite what is sent of the Book by inspiration to thee and establish Regular Salât: for Salât restrains from shameful and unjust deeds; and remembrance of Allah is the greatest (thing in life) without doubt. And Allah knows the (deeds) that ye do." (29:45)
Qur’ân announces that Salât will prevent you from shameful and unjust deeds. Please note that it is not said that a person offering Salât should restrain himself from committing shameful acts and unjust deeds. Salât will restrain the devotee from evil. On the other hand we observe people involved in shameful acts and unjust deeds though they may be regular Namazis for years! The claim of Qur’ân cannot be false. They in fact did not offer Salât in the prescribed manner. It is high time that camps of teaching Salât with meditation be organised. Alas all our books of Salât procedures, Salât taught to the children by elders in their homes and even Salât taught by Mullahs in Madrasah is comprised of recitation and postures only. There is no meditation and hence it is neither providing peace of mind nor restraining from unjust deeds.

We can understand "Dhikr" simply as the repetition of particular names of "ALLAH" or as the recitation of some prayers.

In the second sense, "Dhikr" refers to remembering, mentioning and meditating.

In a superior dimension "Dhikr" is known as persisting, dwelling on a subject to the point of its full comprehension and meditating on it.

MEDITATE DURING THE NIGHT FOR EXTRA CREDIT

17:79 During the night, you shall meditate for extra credit, that your Lord may raise you to an honorable rank.

50:40 During the night you shall meditate on his name and after prostrating.

39:9 Is it not better to be one of those who meditate in the night, prostrating and staying up, being aware of the Hereafter, and seeking the mercy of their Lord? Say, "Are those who know equal to those who do not know?" Only those who possess intelligence will take heed.

20:130 Therefore, be patient in the face of their utterances, and praise and glorify your Lord before sunrise and before sunset. And during the night glorify Him, as well as at both ends of the day, that you may be happy.

25:64 In the privacy of the night they meditate on their Lord, and fall prostrate.

73:1-8 O you cloaked one. Meditate during the night, except rarely. Half of it or a little less. Or a little more. And read the Quran from Cover to Cover. We will give you a heavy message. The meditation at night is more effective, and more righteous. You have a lot of time during the day for other matters. You shall commemorate the name of your Lord, to come ever closer and closer to Him.

73:20 Your Lord knows that you meditate during two thirds of the night, or half of it, or one third of it, and so do some of those who believed with you. God has designed the night and the day, and He knows that you cannot always do this. He has pardoned you. Instead you shall read what you can of the Quran. He knows that some may be ill, others may be traveling in pursuit of Gods provisions, and others may be striving in the cause of God. You shall read what you can of it and observe the contact prayers (Salat), give the obligatory charity (Zakat), and led God a loan of righteousness. Whatever good you send ahead on behalf of your souls, you will find it at God far better and generously rewarded. And implore God for forgiveness. God is Forgiver, Most Merciful.

17:111 .....You shall magnify Him constantly

Yoga Meditation

"All the various Yoga meditation approaches - and there are many - strive to transcend the ego-personality and realize a higher reality, to lift the individual out of ordinary perceptions and relationship to the world," writes Georg Feuerstein in the Shambhala Guide to Yoga. He goes on: "Happiness is our essential nature and material life is inherently limited. The goal of Yoga meditation is to realize our essential nature by conscously uniting with it." The book describes all the various branches of Yoga that you will find in Yoga centers today, including Jnana-Yoga, Karma-Yoga, Bhakti-Yoga, Mantra-Yoga, Raja-Yoga, and Hatha-Yoga, and provides resources for finding them.

Yoga meditation is the same in all of the branches, according to Feuerstein. He gives this instruction:
• Withdraw to a quiet, harmonious place where you can focus inward without distraction or interruption.
• Focus the mind on an object of concentration such as the body itself, the breath, an image, or a sound.
• Practice regularly. Whatever prop is used to focus attention, it must be employed repeatedly to serve it's purpose. It must become a habit.
• Be consistent. It is useful to meditate regularly and at roughly the same time each day.

"Because it is such a rich, variegated tradition, Yoga holds appeal for a wide range of people with many different temperaments and aptitudes."

The word 'Yoga' means 'to unite'. It is a state of being in which the practitioner experiences a cellular connection with the Universe, the Source, or God. And Yoga is also a moral code. Practicing Yoga means paying attention to your whole life.
Lasater's book offers instructions about both the internal 'Yoga within yourself' and the external concerns of relationship and community. Each of the 21 chapters in her book has a guided Yoga meditation practice.

In his book, Yoga for Dummies, Georg Feuerstein helps beginners find a suitable Yoga niche based on their physical condition and personal goals. He gives tips about finding a class, preparing to start practicing Yoga, and establishing a daily practice schedule. He writes: "Whether you are a busy mother and homemaker or a top executive, the mental tranquility you produce through regular Yoga meditation exercises can transform your entire day. If your meditation is successful, you will discover your shadow side and have insights into your character that may prompt some changes. Don't be surprised if you meditation is calm one day and turbulent the next. Graciously accept whatever happens in your meditation and don't hesitate to exercise your sense of humor."

CHAKRAS OR ENERGY CENTERS

For More Detail Click www.spiritualhealingtech.com
Chakras, or whirling energy centers, are very important parts of the bioplasmic body. Just as the visible physical body has vital and minor organs, the bioplasmic body has major, minor, and mini chakras. Major chakras are whirling energy centers which are about three to four inches in diameter.
They control and energize the major and vital organs of the visible physical body. Major chakras are just like power stations that supply vital energy to major and vital organs. When the power stations malfunction, the vital organs become sick or diseased because they do not have enough vital energy to operate properly! Minor chakras are about one to two inches in diameter. Mini chakras are smaller than one inch in diameter.
Minor and mini chakras control and energize the less important parts of the visible physical body. The chakras interpenetrate and extend beyond the visible physical body. They have several important functions as follows:

1) They absorb, digest, and distribute prana to the different parts of the body.
2) The chakras control, energize, and are responsible for the proper functioning of the whole physical body and its different parts and organs. The endocrine glands are controlled and energized by some of the major chakras.
The endocrine glands can be stimulated or inhibited by controlling or manipulating the major chakras. A lot of ailments are caused partially by malfunctioning of the chakras.

3) Some chakras are sites or centers of the psychic faculties. Activation of certain chakras (energy centers) may result in the development of certain psychic faculties. For example, one of the easiest and safest chakras to activate are the hand chakras. These are located at the center of the palms.
By activating the hand chakras, one develops the ability to feel subtle energies and the ability to feel the outer, health, and inner auras. This can simply be accomplished by regularly concentrating on them. In this book, it is called sensitizing the hands. We will discuss the basic chakras in more depth in the next chapter.

PSYCHOSOMATIC DISEASES
Uncontrolled emotions, inhibitions, and suppressed feelings such as anger, intense worry, prolonged irritation, inhibitions or suppressed emotions, and frustrations have undesirable potent effects on the bioplasmic body.
For instance, anger and frustration results in pranic depletion around the solar plexus and abdominal areas or may manifest as pranic congestion around the solar plexus and heart area. In the first case, it manifests itself as indigestion or loose bowel movements. In the long run, it may manifest itself as ulcers or as a gall bladder problem. In the second case, it may manifest itself as a heart enlargement or other heart related problems. It seems that a certain type of negative emotion may manifest as a certain type of disease in one patient but may manifest as another type of disease in another.
Anger and intense worry devitalize the whole bioplasmic body so that the body becomes susceptible to all kinds of diseases. Negative emotions cause disturbances in the bioplasmic body so that the whole physical body becomes sick. You may have experienced that after an intense anger or an intense altercation, you felt physically exhausted or became sick.
This is because both the bioplasmic and visible physical bodies are drained of prana and became susceptible to infection.
If the ailment is of emotional origin, the healer must not only give pranic healing but also psychological counselling. The patient should be asked to undergo a course in character building and to meditate regularly to help overcome these negative emotional tendencies. Through daily inner reflection and meditation, the patient would develop greater self-awareness and emotional maturity. These would greatly improve the ability to control and channel emotions, thus, vastly improving health. It should be noted that in this case, pranic healing will not produce a permanent cure unless there is a corresponding emotional change. It is like extinguishing a fire caused by an arsonist without bothering to catch the culprit. What is to prevent the arsonist from burning the house again once it has been rebuilt?
The root cause of the disease must be removed so that permanent healing can take place.

MIND INFLUENCE ON THE BIOPLASMIC BODY

Clairvoyants have observed that the visible physical body is patterned or molded after the bioplasmic body. The mind can intentionally or unintentionally influence the pattern of the bioplasmic body. Men well-versed in esoteric studies encourage their pregnant wives to look at beautiful things, to listen to harmonious music, to feel and think positively, to engage in serious studies, and to avoid the opposites. These activities affect not only the features of the unborn baby but also the emotional and mental potentialities and tendencies. If the influences are positive, then the effects are positive. If the influences are negative, then the effects are negative.
Pregnant women should take note of this so they will be able to bear better children.
This idea that the mind can influence and actually mold the bioplasmic body to a certain degree is not new. what we see, feel, and think can influence the bioplasmic body, especially that of the unborn baby.

EXTERNAL AND INTERNAL FACTORS OF DISEASES

In the understanding of diseases, one should take into consideration the external and internal factors or the seen and unseen causes. External factors mean those physical factors which contribute to disease like germs, malnutrition, toxins, pollutants, lack of exercise, poor breathing habits, insufficient water intake, etc. Internal factors mean the emotional and bioplasmic factors which contribute to diseases, such as negative emotions, blocked meridians, pranic depletion and congestion, chakral malfunctioning, etc.
For instance, an emotional factor may lead to the weakening of the solar plexus chakra (a major energy center located at the solar plexus) and of the liver, plus an attack from the hepatitis virus or from toxins (such as carbon tetrachloride or phosphorus) will lead to a severe inflammation of the liver. The external factor is the virus or the toxin. The internal factors are the negative emotions and weakening of the solar plexus chakra and the liver that makes the liver vulnerable to viral infection.
If the solar plexus chakra and liver are in good condition, and if the person is of higher vitality, then the probability of contracting the disease is decreased. The body's defense mechanism or detoxifying and eliminating system would likely overcome the virus or the toxin.
The application of pranic healing would cleanse, strengthen, and gradually restore the solar plexus chakra and the liver to their normal conditions. This can be done with or without the aid of drugs.
Diseases may manifest under the following conditions:

1) Due to the presence of external and internal factors.

2) Due to the presence of an overwhelming internal factor only. For example, a person harboring intense anger and frustration may cause severe pranic congestion around the solar plexus chakra, and heart chakra in the long run. Even if this person were to watch his or her diet, he or she would still end up with a heart problem like heart enlargement. Another example: habitual tension or stress may result in pranic congestion around the eye area and, in the long run, may result in glaucoma. (Note: Not all glaucomae are of emotional origin.)

3) Due to the presence of an overwhelming external factor only. For instance, taking a large dose of poison would certainly be fatal even if your bioplasmic body were in perfect condition. Or, for example, poor reading habits would eventually result in eye defects.

THE FUNCTIONS OF THE BIOPLASMIC BODY

1) It absorbs, distributes, and energizes the whole physical body with prana or ki. Prana or ki is that vital energy or life force which nourishes the whole body so that it could, together with its different organs, function properly and normally. Without prana, the body would die.

2) It acts as a mold or pattern for the visible physical body. This allows the visible physical body to maintain its shape, form and feature despite years of continuous metabolism. To be more exact, the visible physical body is molded after the bioplasmic body. If the bioplasmic body is defective, then the visible physical body is defective. They are so closely related that what affects one affects the other. If one gets sick, the other also gets sick. If one gets healed, the other also gets healed. This may manifest gradually or almost instantaneously, assuming that there are no interfering factors.

3) The bioplasmic body, through the chakras or whirlng energy centers, controls and is responsible for the proper functioning of the whole physical body and its different parts and organs. This includes the endocrine glands.
The endocrine glands are external manifestations of some of the major chakras. A lot of sicknesses are caused partially by the malfunctioning of one or more chakras.

4) The bioplasmic body, through its health rays and health auras, serves as a protective shield against germs and diseased bioplasmic matter. Toxins, wastes, and germs are expelled by the health rays predominantly via thepores; thereby, purifying the whole physical body.

Chakra (derived from the Sanskrit cakra is a Sanskrit word that translates as wheel or disc or turning.

Chakra is a concept referring to wheel-like vortices which, according to traditional Indian medicine, are believed to exist in the surface of the etheric double of man.

The Chakras are said to be "force centers" or whorls of energy permeating, from a point on the physical body, the layers of the subtle bodies in an ever-increasing fan-shaped formation (the fans make the shape of a love heart). Rotating vortices of subtle matter, they are considered the focal points for the reception and transmission of energies.

Seven major chakras or energy centers (also understood as wheels of light) are generally believed to exist, located within the subtle body. Practitioners of Hinduism and New Age Spirituality believe the chakras interact with the body's ductless endocrine glands and lymphatic system by feeding in good bio-energies and disposing of unwanted bio-energies.

It is typical for chakras to be depicted in two ways:

1. flower-like
2. wheel-like
In 1. a specific number of petals are shown around the perimeter of a circle,

In 2. a certain number of spokes divide the circle into segments that make the chakra resemble a wheel or chakra. Each chakra possesses a specific number of segments or petals.

Much of the original information on Chakras comes from the Upanishads, which are difficult to date because they are believed to have been passed down orally for approximately a thousand years before being written down for the first time between 1200–900 BCE.

Introduction to the chakras
What chakras are and their psychological properties

Chakras are centers of energy, located on the midline of the body. There are seven of them, and they govern our psychological properties. The chakras located on the lower part of our body are our instinctual side, the highest ones our mental side.

The chakras can have various levels of activity. When they're "open," they're considered operative in a normal fashion.

Ideally, all chakras would contribute to our being. Our instincts would work together with our feelings and thinking. However, this is usually not the case. Some chakras are not open enough (being under-active), and to compensate, other chakras are over-active. The ideal state is where the chakras are balanced. To find out what the state of your chakras is, do the chakra test.

There exist lots of techniques to balance the chakras. Mostly techniques to open chakras are used. It makes no sense to try to make over-active chakras less active, as they are compensating for other chakras. To restore the compensation they'd be over-active again in no time. To stop them from compensating, the chakras they are compensating for must be opened. See the techniques to open chakras.

There are seven main energy centres (chakras) of the body. These chakras are like spirals of energy, each one relating to the others. Using the seven colours of the spectrum, Colour Therapy aims to balance and enhance our body's energy centres/chakras and also to help stimulate our body's own healing process. Colour Therapy uses colour to re-balance the Chakras that have become depleted of energy.
Colour therapy can be shown to help on a physical level; however there are deeper issues around the colours on the psychological and spiritual levels. Colour has a profound effect on us on all levels, physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. If our energy centres become blocked or depleted, then our body cannot function properly and this, in turn, can lead to a variety of problems on any level.
Our well being is not purely a physical issue. Many more practitioners are now treating patients in a holistic manner. That is to say, we are body, mind and spirit and none of these areas function entirely alone; each has an effect upon the other. This is why Colour Therapy can be so helpful since colour addresses all levels of our being.
All life experiences have an affect upon us. Some experiences will be positive and some negative. It is these negative experiences which can manifest themselves physically over time as dis-ease. For example, perhaps over the years we have been in a situation where we have felt unable, for one reason or another, to speak our mind, or to express our needs and feelings. This can manifest as a problem in the throat chakra. The throat chakra relates in the spiritual aspect to self expression. Thus, if our self expression has been blocked, the energy in this area will not be free flowing. Working with the appropriate colour/colours can help to dispel negative feelings, free blocks and re-balance the body. Listed below is each of the spectrum colours and the chakra which it relates to.

1 - Root chakra

The Root chakra is about being physically there and feeling at home in situations. If it is open, you feel grounded, stable and secure. You don't unnecessarily distrust people. You feel present in the here and now and connected to your physical body. You feel you have sufficient territory.
If you tend to be fearful or nervous, your Root chakra is probably under-active. You'd easily feel unwelcome.
If this chakra is over-active, you may be very materialistic and greedy. You're probably obsessed with being secure and resist change.

RED governs the BASE chakra situated at the base of the spine.
VITALITY, COURAGE, SELF CONFIDENCE
Related organs: kidneys and bladder, the vertebral column, hips and legs are also areas related to this chakra.
Endocrine gland: adrenal gland.

Associated problems:

constipation, diarrhea, piles, colitis, Crohn's disease, cold fingers and toes, frequency of urination, hypertension (high blood pressure), kidney stones, impotence, hip problems, legs and feet. PINK can also be used here when a more gentle energy is required.

Personality Traits: Courageous, confident, humanistic, strong-willed, spontaneous, honest, and extroverted.
Red relates to self awareness. It is the area of survival and stability and your place on this earth. The colour red provides the power from the earth and gives energy on all levels. It connects us to our physical body. Everything that is to be commenced needs the life vitality of red.

positive aspects of red:
- security
- courage
- strength of will
- pioneering
negative aspects of red:

- insecurity
- self pitying
- aggressive
- fearful 2 - Sacral chakra

The Sacral chakra is about feeling and sexuality. When it is open, your feelings flow freely, and are expressed without you being over-emotional. You are open to intimacy and you can be passionate and lively. You have no problems dealing with your sexuality.
If you tend to be stiff and unemotional or have a "poker face," the Sacral chakra is under-active. You're not very open to people.
If this chakra is over-active, you tend to be emotional all the time. You'll feel emotionally attached to people and you can be very sexual.

ORANGE governs the SACRAL chakra situated in the lower abdomen.
HAPPINESS, CONFIDENCE, RESOURCEFULNESS

Related organs: uterus, large bowel, prostate, ovaries and testes. (In the fetus the testes develop in the lower abdomen, thus linking with the sacral chakra energy, then descending to the scrotum by birth.)

Endocrine glands: ovaries and testes

Associated problems: pre-menstrual syndrome, problems with menstrual flow, uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, irritable bowel syndrome, endometriosis, testicular disease, prostate disease.

Personality Traits: Enthusiastic, happy, sociable, energetic, sporty, self-assured, and constructive.
Orange is the colour of success and relates to self respect; having the ability to give ourselves the freedom to be ourselves and helps you expand your interests and activities. Brings joy to our workday and strengthens our appetite for life! Orange is the best emotional stimulant. It connects us to our senses and helps to remove inhibitions and makes us independent and social.

positive aspects of orange
- sociable
- creative
- joyous
- independent
negative aspects of orange
- withdrawn
- destructive
- despondent
- over-dependent

Pranic Healing, a comprehensive system of principles and techniques involving the use of life-force energy for treating physical and psychological conditions, and maintaining good health. Studies related to the Planetary Meditation for Peace, Superbrain Yoga, other meditations and practices are also presented.

Several studies are being conducted around the world to investigate the effects and efficacy of Pranic Healing techniques in the treatment of various physical and psychological conditions such as hypertension, stress, recovery from accidental injury, and other areas.

The effects of the Planetary Meditation for Peace, Superbrain Yoga and other subtle-energy techniques on physical and psychological condition of subjects, scholastic abilities of children, behavioral changes in subjects with ADD and ADHD are also being studied.
The most beautiful experience we can have is the mysterious. It is the fundamental emotion which stands at the cradle of true art and science. Whoever does not know it and can no longer marvel, is as good as dead, and his eyes are dimmed.
—Albert Einstein

disease is caused by such malevolent microscopic creatures as bacteria, germs or viruses which alter our natural physiological functioning or defense mechanisms. Disease can also be caused, according to this view, by emotional stress or psychological problems.
Because disease is believed to be caused either by an infection, an allergen, or a breakdown in physiological functioning, all one has to do is to remove or neutralize the invading mechanism or stress-inducing situation or agent and presto! The patient will be cured. Unfortunately, not all diseases respond to these methods of treatment, despite the impressive advances of modern medical science. As a matter of fact, some medications prescribed by doctors have serious side-effects.
There appears to be a third alternative view, one that has been neglected by modern medical science. I refer here to the energy body that we all have and its crucial role in the causation and treatment of diseases The existence of the energy body (sometimes called the etheric double, or
vital body) and its intimate interaction with the physical body, are what gives meaning to and effectiveness of pranic healing as described in this book.
"The recognition of the existence of the vital body," as the book
Unrecognized factors in Medicine^ published by Theosophical Research
Centre in London, pointed out, "provides an explanation for the success of such general treatments (as pranic healing), since they tend to restore a ready flow of prana, and the flow of prana, or vital energy, is the chief determining factor for the bio-electric conditions within a living form."
Modern Kirlian photography has shown that disease appears first in the energy or vital body before it manifests itself in the physical body.
There is an intimate connection between the two. Therefore, by treating the vital body, we can often effect a cure in the physical body. And this is what Pranic Healing by Choa Kok Sui is all about; it is indeed a significant contribution to alternative healing practices.
What makes the book more valuable is the fact that it has a minimum of theory and a maximum of practical and specific advice on how to perform the type of healing advocated by the author. It does not contain any mumbo-jumbo, nor any elaborate ritual which may offend certain religious groups. It is as straightforward as any scientific process should be. It does not intend to supplant orthodox medical treatment, but merely
to complement it. This is a handbook which can be used profitably by anyone interested in developing natural healing abilities. I am convinced that this book will be accepted by a wide segment of our society.
